About me

I’m the director of Newcastle-based artist-run gallery System and practice-based Fine Art PhD researcher at Newcastle University. I’m primarily interested in the social worlds and tacit forms of value within artist-run initiatives. Much of my thinking centres around how the provision of space can constrain and enable the giving and receiving of care, support, and belonging.

In my Phd I am using a form of action research which centres around my curatorial practice. For this I am using System as a research site to test his ideas, collect data, and share findings. Supplementing this, I am collecting data using several ethnographic and narrative interview approaches.

I’m also research assistant on More Than Meanwhile Spaces II, an interdisciplinary project working to secure long-term futures for artist-led initiatives in the region. Within this, I’m responsible for bringing together a regional network of artist-led initiatives over five ‘strategic dialogue’ events to pool existing knowledge and research, co-develop ‘actions’, and advocate for sustainable artist-run futures in the region.
